Welcome to the American History Archives, a preview of an online database of historical documents and artifacts from the National Parks of New York Harbor, part of the nearly 400 sites across America preserved and protected by the National Park Service. When completed in 2012, the archives, now being catalogued, will encompass several thousand items.
The early discoveries featured in the above highlights, were selected by the national park's Manhattan sites' historian Steve Laise and consulting archivist Mimi Bowling with audio commentary provided by authors, scholars, and other luminaries through the National Parks of New York Harbor Conservancy.
Documents, letters and other historic treasures will be featured monthly with expert interpretation.

This project was made possible through a generous donation from the Leon Levy Foundation to the National Parks of New York Harbor Conservancy.
The National Parks of New York Harbor encompasses 22 cultural and natural sites that arc across four boroughs of the city and to New Jersey. Six of its Manhattan sites are featured here. The National Parks of New York Harbor Conservancy is its primary private partner sanctioned under a U.S. Department of the Interior General Agreement charged with providing philanthropic support and earned revenue.
